Introduction to Digital Viticulture
August 24, 2022The role of new technology in agriculture has always been about improving efficiency, productivity, and profitability. In grape production, the development of new tools like mechanical harvesters, multi-row sprayers, and variable rate controllers have helped grape growers to produce quality fruit in their vineyards with fewer people and lower costs.
In recent years, new technologies have started to emerge that will help growers continue that trend. In this workshop, we will introduce growers to some of these tools and technologies that are available to them right now (or in the very near future) to help them make more informed decisions regarding where and how to address various issues in the vineyard, including disease management, crop loads, the influence of soil characteristics on vine health and productivity, and much more.
Speakers for the workshop will include:
- Hans Walter-Peterson, Viticulture Specialist, Cornell Cooperative Extension
- Katie Gold, Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology, Cornell AgriTech
- Yu Jiang, Assistant Professor of Horticulture, Cornell AgriTech
- Kathleen Kanaley, Ph.D. candidate in Plant Pathology, Cornell AgriTech
This 'Introduction to Digital Viticulture' workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 24 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Cornell AgriTech in Geneva. There is no charge for the workshop, but registration is required, and limited to 20 participants. Lunch will be provided after the workshop is finished for those who wish to stay. Registration deadline is Tuesday, August 23 at 12:00 PM so we can plan for food.
