Pesticide and Farm Safety Training for non-licenced workers in Spanish

The Finger Lakes Grape Program, NYCAMH, and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Yates County will be holding Spanish-language farm safety and Worker Protection Standard (WPS) trainings from 1-4pm on Monday, March 23rd. The workshops will take place at Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyards, 3962 NY-14, Dundee, NY 14837.

Tree-of-Heaven: Identification, Ecological Impacts, Mapping and Management

Tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima) is an invasive species that has negative ecological impacts on our forests and is also the preferred tree of the invasive spotted lanternfly (SLF). Knowing how to identify and record locations of tree of heaven in iMapInvasives is a proactive practice that will help identify high priority areas to monitor for and implement management strategies to control anticipated SLF infestations. Another proactive practice landowners can engage in is removal of tree-of-heaven from their property, but effective management of this tree requires specific control practices. Learn more about all of these topics so you can help manage an invasive tree species and be an integral contributor of the early detection and rapid response to SLF.

CCE Yates will be offering small classes for those wishing to prepare to take their pesticide applicator exam. The training will cover the safe handling of pesticides, rules and regulations, formulations and much more. This course is not a 30-hour course. The training will take place in the Yates County Auditorium and pre-registration is required.
